QUICK ANSWER

A Chile elopement can cost anywhere from USD 1,500 to USD 35,000+, depending on where you’re flying from, your destination, and the vendors you choose. A couple traveling from Argentina with a simple, intimate plan can have a beautiful elopement in Casablanca Valley for under USD 3,000. Couples flying from North America or Europe typically invest between USD 8,000 and USD 12,000 for a mid-range experience. For those choosing luxury lodges like Awasi Patagonia (Relais & Châteaux), Tierra Patagonia, or Explora, budgets range from USD 20,000 to USD 35,000+. There is no single number. What matters is building a plan that fits what you value most.

️ A note on pricing: All references in this guide are approximate. Fixed costs like flights, accommodation, and park fees can be researched and compared publicly. Creative services — photography, florals, hair and makeup, officiant, catering — vary widely depending on the professional’s experience, the destination, and the scope of work. Quality providers price their work according to the value they deliver. Always request personalized quotes directly from each vendor.

A Note Before We Talk Numbers

I’m Lised, and for over 15 years I’ve been photographing elopements, destination weddings, and couples who come to Chile just to have their love story told in one of the most beautiful places on earth. I’ve stood in the wind at Torres del Paine, photographed ceremonies between vineyards in Casablanca at golden hour, and watched couples fall in love with Atacama all over again at sunrise. I know these places well, and I know what it actually costs to make an experience here happen beautifully. This guide is the honest version of what I share with every couple I work with.

How Much Does It Really Cost to Elope in Chile?

There’s a question I hear from almost every international couple before they decide: “Is eloping in Chile expensive?”

The honest answer is: it depends on what you’re comparing it to.

If you compare it to a traditional wedding in the US, UK, or Australia (where costs typically run USD 30,000–60,000+), then no, a Chile elopement is not expensive. You’re trading a hundred-person reception for something more meaningful, more personal, and frankly, more photographable.

If you’re expecting it to cost what a weekend trip does, then yes, there is a real investment involved. Chile is a long-haul destination, and getting there, staying well, and capturing it properly requires planning and budget.

In this guide I’m breaking down every cost category honestly, based on 15+ years photographing elopements all over Chile, from the vineyards of Casablanca Valley to the peaks of Torres del Paine.

Something Most Guides Don’t Tell You About Travel

In an elopement, travel time has a real cost. Those are hours every professional dedicates exclusively to your wedding: travel time, waiting, setting up on location. In most cases, those hours are charged. It’s not an unjustified extra — it’s simply how working outside the city works. The more remote the destination, the higher the cost of both the service and the travel itself. That’s exactly why Casablanca, just one hour from Santiago, is so budget-efficient: everything you pay goes toward the creative work, not the logistics of getting there.

Breaking Down Each Cost

️ International Flights

Flights are usually your biggest fixed expense and vary a lot depending on where you’re flying from.

From North America (USA / Canada):

  • East Coast to Santiago (SCL): USD 900–1,600 round trip
  • West Coast to Santiago: USD 800–1,400 round trip
  • Best booking window: 3–6 months in advance

From Europe (UK, Germany, Spain, France):

  • London / Madrid to Santiago: USD 900–2,000 round trip
  • Non-stop options exist from Madrid and Frankfurt
  • Best booking window: 4–8 months in advance

From Australia / New Zealand:

  • Sydney to Santiago: USD 1,200–2,500 round trip
  • Some routes connect via the US or Auckland

Insider tip: The cheapest months to fly into Chile are May through August (Chilean winter). If your heart is set on Patagonia, you’ll be flying in peak season (November through February). Book early and budget accordingly.

Accommodation

Where you stay shapes the entire feel of your elopement. Here’s an honest breakdown by destination:

Snow and Ski Resorts (Central Andes, a year-round option):

This is one of Chile’s best-kept wedding secrets: a ceremony in the snow, surrounded by the Andes, just 90 minutes from Santiago. Almost nobody is talking about this yet, and that’s exactly why it’s such a beautiful opportunity.

  • Valle Nevado (3,000m altitude, 90 min from Santiago, part of the Ikon Pass): Hotel Valle Nevado from USD 500–800/night all-inclusive including ski and meals. The most accessible snow elopement in South America. You can be in downtown Santiago in the morning and exchanging vows in the Andes by afternoon. I’ve photographed elopements here and the combination of snow, altitude, and Andean peaks creates images that feel completely unlike anything else in Chile.
  • Nevados de Chillán (7-time winner of Chile’s Best Ski Resort at the World Ski Awards, with natural thermal pools): Hotel Nevados from USD 350–600/night. Snow, geothermal hot springs, and mountain views in one place. 4 hours from Santiago.

Both are in peak ski season June through September, but accessible year-round. Nevados de Chillán runs its thermal pools and bike park in summer too.

Santiago (base before/after your trip):

  • Budget options: USD 60–120/night (Airbnb or boutique hostel)
  • Mid-range hotels: USD 150–300/night
  • Luxury (W Hotel, Singular): USD 300–600/night

Casablanca Valley / Wine Country:

Just 1 hour from Santiago, and that proximity matters in ways that most couples don’t think about at first. No domestic flights, no long transfers. And something important that most guides skip: when a vendor travels to a remote destination, their rate includes not only travel expenses but also the extra hours worked in transit. That can add a significant amount on top of the actual service. In Casablanca, your budget goes entirely toward the creative work.

  • Vineyard guesthouses: USD 150–350/night
  • Boutique hotels with pool and vineyard views: USD 250–500/night

Patagonia / Torres del Paine:

  • Basic refugios inside the park: USD 80–150/night (meals included)
  • Boutique lodges near Puerto Natales: USD 200–400/night
  • EcoCamp Patagonia (iconic geodesic domes inside the park): USD 870–1,100+/night all-inclusive
  • Explora Patagonia (on the shores of Lago Pehoe, views of Cuernos del Paine): approx. USD 3,000/night all-inclusive, minimum 3 nights
  • Tierra Patagonia Hotel & Spa (panoramic views of the massif, spa, indoor and outdoor pool, Patagonian cuisine): approx. USD 3,800/night all-inclusive, minimum 4 nights. They even have a dedicated Honeymoon in Patagoniapackage.
  • Awasi Patagonia (Relais & Châteaux member, only 14 private stand-alone villas, each with a dedicated guide and private 4×4 vehicle): USD 2,000–3,500+/night all-inclusive. The most exclusive lodge in the region.

A note for couples considering Awasi, Explora, or Tierra Patagonia: guests staying here are already making a significant investment in the experience. Adding excellent elopement photography is the natural next step. It’s the one thing that makes the whole trip permanent. If this is your tier, let’s talk about a custom package.

Atacama Desert:

  • Hostels and local hotels in San Pedro: USD 80–180/night
  • Boutique hotels: USD 200–400/night
  • Explora Atacama (luxury): USD 700+/night

My suggestion: Plan at least 5–7 nights in Chile. Two nights in Santiago as an arrival and departure buffer, and 3–5 nights at your elopement destination.

Elopement Photography

This is the one investment I’ll always encourage you not to cut. Everything else (the flowers, the dress, the dinner) fades with time. Your photographs are what you live with forever.

Photography pricing for elopements in Chile varies depending on the photographer’s experience, the destination, and the scope of coverage. A destination like Casablanca Valley, just an hour from Santiago, naturally has a different cost structure than a multi-day trip to Patagonia or Atacama, where travel time becomes part of the service.

When you’re comparing photographers, it’s worth asking not just about the final price but what’s included: how many hours, how many images, whether planning support is part of the process, and whether travel is already factored in. A photographer who knows your destination intimately brings something that goes beyond technical skill. They know where the light lands, which moments to anticipate, and how to help you feel at ease even if you’ve never been in front of a camera before.

Florals and Styling

Floral design for elopements is much simpler than for traditional weddings, and that simplicity is often what makes it beautiful. A single well-chosen bouquet in Patagonia or Atacama is enough. The landscape does the rest.

For couples who want more, a ceremony arch or simple styling can be a lovely addition. What matters most is working with a florist who understands the environment, the wind conditions, and the native flora of the region. Chile has stunning native wildflowers that bring an honest, local quality to the images.

Floral pricing varies depending on the florist, the destination, and the complexity of the arrangement. Always request a quote directly.

Hair and Makeup

Having a hair and makeup artist come to your location on elopement day is one of those details that makes a real difference, not just visually but in how you feel going into the ceremony.

In Chile, pricing varies depending on the artist’s experience, the destination, and whether travel is involved. Destinations close to Santiago tend to have lower rates since no travel supplement applies. For remote destinations like Patagonia or Atacama, factor in travel time as part of the service.

I work with a trusted network of hair and makeup artists across Santiago, Casablanca, and Patagonia. They understand elopement-day timing, use products that hold up in wind and outdoor conditions, and know how to work efficiently without making you feel rushed.

Transportation Within Chile

Getting around Chile requires some planning, especially for Patagonia.

Santiago and Casablanca Valley:

  • Rental car: USD 40–80/day (highly recommended for the vineyard area)
  • Private driver / transfer: USD 150–300 per day
  • Uber and taxis work well within Santiago

Patagonia (Torres del Paine):

  • Flight Santiago to Punta Arenas or Puerto Natales: USD 150–400 round trip
  • Bus from Puerto Natales to the park: USD 10–20
  • Rental car in Punta Arenas: USD 60–120/day
  • Private transfers: USD 200–400 for park access

Atacama Desert:

  • Flight Santiago to Calama (gateway to Atacama): USD 100–300 round trip
  • Tours and transfers within San Pedro de Atacama: USD 30–100/day

Officiant for Your Ceremony

A symbolic ceremony doesn’t require a legal officiant, but most couples want someone to lead the moment with intention. A bilingual officiant who knows how to read a couple and personalize the script makes a real difference to how the ceremony feels.

Pricing varies depending on experience, location, and what’s included in the service. Ask about what the process looks like before the day: does the officiant get to know you beforehand, or do they simply show up with a generic script?

For a legal marriage in Chile, the requirements are more complex, involving document translation, apostille certification, and Civil Registry registration. Many international couples handle the legal side at home and have a symbolic ceremony in Chile. It’s simpler, more beautiful, and lets you focus entirely on the experience.

️ Celebration Dinner

One of the best parts of an elopement: you have the budget to eat really, really well.

Chile has an outstanding food culture, from Patagonian lamb to fresh Pacific seafood to world-class wine country cuisine. A private catering experience, a long dinner at a vineyard restaurant, or a picnic in nature prepared by a local caterer are all beautiful ways to end the day.

Catering quality in Chile ranges widely. A good-level catering service is priced per person and varies depending on the menu, number of courses, and level of service. Vineyard restaurants in Casablanca offer set menus with wine pairings at a range of price points. Patagonia lodge dinners are often included in the accommodation rate. Always ask what’s available at your specific venue and request a direct quote.

I always recommend ending the day over a long, unhurried dinner. You’ve just done something extraordinary. It deserves to be celebrated slowly.

Park Permits and Entrance Fees

If your elopement is in a national park or protected area:

Torres del Paine National Park:

  • International tourist entrance: approx. USD 25–30 per person
  • Photography permits for commercial shoots: contact CONAF directly for current rates

Atacama Desert:

  • Valle de la Luna (CONAF): approx. USD 10–15 per person
  • Salar de Atacama, Piedras Rojas: typically included in guided tours

Casablanca / Wine Country:

  • No national park fees. Most vineyard venues charge a location fee directly.

From My Experience: What’s Worth Spending On

After 15+ years photographing elopements across Chile, here’s my honest take on where to invest and where you can simplify:

Worth every peso:

  • Photography. It’s the one thing you can’t redo. Invest in someone who knows your destination and knows how to tell a story.
  • Extra nights in your destination. Rushing an elopement is the biggest mistake I see. Give yourself time to breathe, explore, and actually be present.
  • A good dinner. After the ceremony, eat well. You deserve it.

Where you can simplify:

  • Florals. One beautiful bouquet is enough. The Chilean landscape does the rest.
  • Decor. In Patagonia or Atacama you don’t need any. The backdrop is already perfect.
  • A big dress. Light fabrics and mobility matter more than a ballgown when you’re hiking or standing in Patagonian wind.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Chile expensive for a destination wedding? Compared to popular European destinations like Italy, France, or Greece, Chile is very competitive in price, especially when you factor in the dramatic and unique landscapes. Most couples find the total investment completely worth it.

Is it cheaper to elope in Patagonia or Casablanca Valley? Casablanca is generally more accessible. It’s close to Santiago, requires no domestic flights, and vendor costs are lower because no travel time is involved. Patagonia adds travel and higher accommodation costs, but the visual impact is in a league of its own.

What is the most affordable way to elope in Chile? Base yourself in Santiago, plan a day in Casablanca Valley, keep florals minimal, and choose a boutique hotel. You can have a beautifully photographed elopement for a very accessible total when flying from nearby countries.

Do I need a large budget for a Patagonia elopement? Not enormous, but realistic. The key expense is travel. Once you’re there, the park itself is accessible and affordable. The big variables are accommodation tier and the creative team you choose.

Does the photography cost include travel to Chile? If you’re working with a Chile-based photographer like me, there are no additional travel fees for most destinations within Chile. Destinations like Torres del Paine or Atacama may include a travel supplement. Always clarify this upfront.

What’s the best time of year to elope in Chile on a budget? March through May (autumn) is a sweet spot: Patagonia is less crowded, prices drop slightly, the light is beautiful, and the landscape turns warm gold and red. For Atacama, any season works. Avoid holiday weekends when domestic tourism spikes prices.

Is it worth hiring a local photographer over bringing one from home? Almost always yes. A local photographer knows the hidden spots, the best light windows, the logistics of each location, and has relationships with local vendors. It also eliminates international travel fees that would otherwise be passed to you.
